This role reports directly to the Head of Advancement and is responsible for designing, directing, and implementing an integrated and comprehensive stewardship program that strengthens the philanthropic engagement and enhances donor relations with the institution, working collaboratively with the fundraising teams in the department.

The responsibilities of this role are:

Stewardship Strategy and Leadership
  • Develop, drive and execute a stewardship strategy in alignment with the department’s plan and objectives.
  • Provide strategic direction in development and initiation of stewardship plans and initiatives that acknowledge and steward all gifts and recognise donors with an emphasis on major gifts.
  • Lead and direct the Stewardship Team to strategize, prioritize and execute:
    • programs and services that support Gift Administration in compliance with Gift Agreements and Rules of Administration;
    • a comprehensive gift stewardship and fulfilment in the form of gift usage and impact on major gift donors;
    • donor relations and philanthropic engagement via communications, programs and events
    • Help to identify top stewardship prospects.
    • Build, lead and motivate a high performing Stewardship team.
Donor Relations and Stakeholder Engagement
  • Oversee operations of the Team, to ensure smooth execution of stewardship programs including developing and managing the annual operating budget.
  • Oversee the planning and organizing of signature donor appreciation events to bring together the community of major donors and gift recipients.
  • Proactively lead in supporting fundraising colleagues in designing and executing stewardship plans for donors and top prospects and in reviewing existing donor events to maximise impact and effectiveness.
  • Evaluate the quality and impact of donor relations / stewardship programs.
  • Oversee stewardship programme for major donors to ensure that a co-ordinated approach is taken.
  • Engage and collaborate with academic leaders to create strategies for developing donor relations / stewardship standards to ensure that they play an active role in donor cultivation and stewardship.
  • Develop direct, frequent contact with faculty members to keep abreast of projects, establish areas of potential interest for reporting to donors and ensure that projects are delivered to time and budget.
  • Support the Head of Advancement in providing excellent stewardship of President's Donor List.
  • Deliver a quarterly series of high-level round table forums to engage C-suite donors and prospects.
  • Serve as a creative resource in identifying and developing new methods of donor communications e.g., social media.
  • Ensure that the team maintains regular contact with recipients of philanthropic funding such as scholars to generate frequent reports for donors to reinforce the nature of support.
  • Identify opportunities to engage emerging donor groups: young alumni, international alumni, etc, and liaise with relevant departments to develop, and roll out engagement programs.
Reporting
  • Oversee donor and stewardship reporting efforts, including:
    • managing stewardship of funds;
    • facilitating development and administration of gift agreements;
    • direct production of reports for endowed and specified current funds, provide oversight to ensure restricted funds are being used according to donors’ wishes and donors are kept informed of the use and impact of their gifts
  • Adopt industry best practice in prospect research and donor engagement

 
The ideal candidate will need to have the following qualities and experience:
  • A degree in any discipline
  • More than 10 years of experience in Business Development, Customer Experience and / or Customer Service.
  • Demonstrated skills, knowledge and experience in the design and execution of stewardship and donor / customer relations programs and activities.
  • Strategic and detailed planner who understands the role of advancement in a higher education environment (or a comparably complex organization).
  • Proven experience in the development and implementation of robust stewardship strategies involving a range of senior stakeholders.
  • Proven success in building and leading a high performing team, specifically within a philanthropic context.
  • Demonstrated success in achieving successful strategic outcomes in a large and complex environment.
  • Demonstrated previous experience interacting with high level donors and developing comprehensive, strategic stewardship programs.
