  JOB DESCRIPTION Our client is actively searching for a Head, Employee Relations & Compliance, Office of Human Resources (OHR) to join their team!

The responsibilities of this role are:
  • Design and implement Employee Relations policies in consultation with key stakeholders and in alignment with local laws and regulations. Relevant policies include but are not limited to the following areas:
    • Employee and labour relations
    • Involuntary employment termination
    • Employee investigation
    • Employee non-compliance
    • HR-related crisis management
  • Provide consultative support to VPHR, HRBPs and other key stakeholders as needed to resolve employee relations issues and/or to take disciplinary actions.
  • Guide team and key stakeholders through confidential and sensitive investigations, including addressing issues arising from the corporate compliance hotline or work- related complaints (e.g., Sexual Harassment and other Workplace Harassment, Discrimination and Bullying).
  • Lead and oversee all union-related matters to uphold good industrial relations. This includes but is not limited to, Collective Agreement negotiations, partnering the Union on IR events.
  • Act as our client's key representative facing governmental institutions on matters pertaining to employee and labour relations issues, employee investigation and non-compliance, and crisis management.
  • Advise and guide HR colleagues and line managers on ER and compliance matters.
  • Other duties as assigned.

The ideal candidate will need to have the following qualities and experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • Minimum of 10 years in HR-related experience, with at least 5 years of experience managing employee relations issues, HR compliance and industrial relations matters.
  • Strong knowledge of general HR policies and practices, employment laws and regulations, and investigation-related protocols.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to assess risks and propose mitigation strategies.
  • Demonstrates high level of empathy and advanced listening skills when communicating, influencing, problem-solving people matters.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Prior experience in an academic institution is preferred, but not necessary.
